Report Unclaimed Property
DORMANCY REDUCED TO THREE YEARS FOR SECURITIES PROPERTY. SEE "RECENT LEGISLATIVE CHANGES IMPACTING REPORTING" FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
The South Carolina Uniform Unclaimed Act (the Act) defines what constitutes unclaimed property, how long a business organization must maintain the property, what to do with the property once it is determined to be abandoned and what happens if the property is not reported to the State in a timely manner. It is rare for any organization NOT to have unclaimed property because unclaimed property results from normal business operations.
Unclaimed Property reports and remittances are due before November 1 each year for property that has reached its dormancy period by the previous June 30. Entities reporting unclaimed property are strongly urged to use the free user-friendly software, which produces an electronic report accepted by all states. SOUTH CAROLINA DOES NOT REQUIRE THE FILING OF NEGATIVE REPORTS
