Meet Curtis Loftis
State Treasurer Curtis M. Loftis, Jr.
Curtis Loftis is the State Treasurer of South Carolina. He was elected in 2010, winning all 46 counties and was re-elected in 2014.
As Treasurer, he is the state's "private banker.” He manages, invests, and has custody of more than $65 billion in public funds, including the state’s pension funds. Treasurer Loftis is a nationally recognized advocate for public pension reform, and his leadership has been featured in numerous publications including The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Institutional Investor, Bond Buyer, and The New York Times. He is a sought after speaker and has presented to groups such as the Wall Street Journal Private Equity Conference, The SkyBridge Alternative (SALT) Conference, and the World Pension Forum. In 2013, he was named “Friend of the Taxpayer” by the South Carolina Association of Taxpayers.
Treasurer Curtis Loftis is the Vice Chairman of the State Fiscal Accountability Authority, the Chairman of the Board of Financial Institutions, the Vice Chairman of the South Carolina Education Authority, and the Vice Chairman of the South Carolina Tobacco Authority. Treasurer Loftis is the Vice President of the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators and will become its President in January, 2017. He is also a member of the South Carolina Retirement System Investment Commission which manages the $30 billion retirement fund’s investments.
He is a member of the Cayce-West Columbia Rotary Club, and he is a 1981 graduate of the University of South Carolina.

Boards and Commissions
Treasurer Loftis serves on the following boards and commissions:
The State Fiscal Accountability Authority is made up of the Governor, the Treasurer, the Comptroller General, the Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, and the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. The Authority is comprised of the Insurance Reserve Fund and the Division of Procurement Services. An independent auditing function is administered through the Office of the State Auditor.
Manages the system's approximately twenty-five billion dollar investment pool. The South Carolina Retirement System Investment Commission's goal is to maximize the return of the system's assets while safeguarding capital for it's retirees. The Treasurer is the custodian of these funds.
The Board supervises financial institutions under its jurisdiction through the Bank Examining Division and supervises mortgage originators and lenders, finance companies, pay day lenders, and title lenders through its Consumer Finance Division.
The Treasurer is the custodian of the Authority's funds.
The South Carolina Tobacco Authority administers the tobacco settlement funds. The Treasurer is the custodian of these funds.
Away From the Office
State Treasurer Curtis Loftis visits his food pantry in Ternopil, Ukraine
Away from the office, the Treasurer is busy serving others. In 2000, he founded and is the benefactor of The Saluda Charitable Foundation. The Foundation focuses its giving on the education, nutrition and medical care of children, especially those with disabilities. Saluda Charitable has served more than 300,000 meals, built a church, renovated schools and hospitals, sponsored medical missions and food pantries.
Curtis Loftis is an avid outdoorsman. He enjoys spending time hiking, fly fishing, rock climbing, hunting, and clearing his land. His love of travel has taken him all over the world and led him to establish his philanthropic organization to help people in less developed countries.
