State Treasurer Curtis Loftis Recognizes Andrea Dickey of Blythewood Academy as Educator of the Month

South Carolina Treasurer Curtis Loftis recognizes Andrea Dickey of Blythewood Academy as October’s Future Scholar Financial Literacy Program Educator of the Month.

Ms. Dickey, a business education teacher, has been using the Future Scholar Financial Literacy Program with her students for two years. Powered by EverFi, the web-based, interactive program engages students to make learning financial skills interesting and fun.

“What inspires me about teaching financial literacy is providing my students with a solid foundation which is needed now in the real world,” Dickey said. “I can’t emphasize how important it is for our young people to learn the significance of needs versus wants, money management skills, credit strategies and dangers as well as appropriate debit card uses so they can make well-informed decisions.”

The Future Scholar Financial Literacy Program is offered to elementary and middle schools across the state at no cost to taxpayers. The web-based financial management course focuses on skill building, budgeting and decision-making.

“Financial literacy is an essential tool for economic success, and we are grateful for instructors like Ms. Dickey who teach these skills,” Treasurer Loftis said. “Because our financial system has grown increasingly complex, it is more important than ever for our students to begin now to learn how to make sound financial decisions.” 

Approximately 27,000 South Carolina students and 238 schools have participated in the Future Scholar Financial Literacy Program since it was launched in 2015.
