Monday, March 26, 2018

State Treasurer Curtis Loftis recognized hundreds of students at Indian Land Elementary School Monday for their progress in financial literacy.

Treasurer Loftis celebrated 573 students at the Lancaster County school for their successful participation in the Future Scholar Financial Literacy Program, a web-based financial management course offered to all elementary and middle schools across the state at no cost to schools or taxpayers.Curtis Loftis at Indian Land

“The financial concepts these boys and girls have learned such as the importance of saving, the value of adhering to a budget, and the ability to recognize needs versus wants will benefit them their entire lives,” Treasurer Loftis said. “We congratulate all of these students and the leadership at Indian Land Elementary for making financial literacy a priority in the classroom.”

Guidance counselors Terri Nowinski and Amanda Davis lead the program at Indian Land, where students have completed 621 hours of financial literacy education this school year.

Treasurer Loftis, Future Scholar and SC Economics have partnered with education technology company EverFi, Inc. to bring South Carolina students a financial literacy program focused on skill-building, budgeting and decision-making at no cost to schools or taxpayers.

Since 2015, the program has reached more than 23,000 students at 235 South Carolina schools.
