Columbia -- Today South Carolina Treasurer Curtis Loftis signed letters returning $169,854.85 in unclaimed property.

"South Carolinians need to check to see if there is unclaimed property in their name," says Treasurer Loftis. "I want people to check so they can get the money that rightfully belongs to them."

Examples of the type of property covered by the Program include bank accounts, stock certificates, checks, insurance policies and utility deposits. The Unclaimed Property Program does not include tangible property like land or vehicles.
