Treasurer Loftis Named “Friend of the Taxpayer”

The South Carolina Association of Taxpayers (SCAT), “The voice of the taxpayer in South Carolina,” held its 18th Annual Legislative Luncheon on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at the Capital City Club in Columbia. At the event, South Carolina State Treasurer Curtis Loftis was presented with the group’s prestigious “Friend of the Taxpayer” award.

“As an advocate for the taxpayers of South Carolina, my goal is to make our government more transparent and accountable so that it has a positive impact on behalf of the citizens of our state,” said Treasurer Loftis. “It is a high honor to receive this award from the South Carolina Association of Taxpayers in recognition of our work over the past three years.”

Each year, SCAT awards elected officials for their commitment and service to the taxpayers of South Carolina. Treasurer Loftis was recognized as an award recipient by SCAT board members for his efforts on behalf of South Carolina taxpayers in the previous year.

SCAT President Don Weaver said, “Treasurer Loftis has spoken out on behalf of state retirees and raised numerous questions on the millions of dollars in fees that South Carolina’s retirement fund pays out each year. For that, we award our ‘Friend of the Taxpayer’ award for 2013 to South Carolina Treasurer Curtis Loftis.”
