Melissa Simmons

Deputy State Treasurer

Melissa D. Simmons, CPA, CFP, joined the State Treasurer’s Office staff in August 2016. She currently serves as a Deputy State Treasurer, overseeing the agency’s Banking, Investment Management and Treasury Management Divisions.

Melissa has proudly served the State of South Carolina for more than 25 years. Prior to joining the State Treasurer’s Office, she worked in various auditing, management and financial roles at the State Auditor’s Office and S.C. Department of Health and Human Services. Melissa has also worked in the private sector, serving as a financial advisor at Ameriprise Financial Advisors for eight years. Her financial planning experience includes portfolio analysis, investment planning, tax planning, insurance planning and estate planning.

A native of South Carolina, Melissa is a 1989 graduate of the University of South Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Financial Planner and has completed executive training with the Governor’s Excel Leadership Institute. Melissa lives with her husband, Bob, and daughter, Brooke, in Blythewood, S.C. She is active in her church and in her community and has served on the Board of Trustees for the S.C. Baptist Ministries for the Aging.
