March 3, 2017
Columbia, SC - In February 2017, State Treasurer Curtis Loftis and the Unclaimed Property Program returned more than $2.1 million in unclaimed property.
"Returning money to the rightful owners is one of the best parts of my job," said Treasurer Loftis. "It's important to check your name to see if you have any unclaimed property waiting for you. Returning money to the rightful owners is one of my top priorities. It's free and easy to check your name, so there's no reason you shouldn't check right now!"
Examples of the type of property covered by the Unclaimed Property Program include bank accounts, stock certificates, checks, insurance policies and utility deposits. The Unclaimed Property Program does not include tangible property like land or vehicles.
