Palmetto Payback Hometown Tour Coming to Winnsboro on Aug 8

(Columbia, SC) – State Treasurer Curtis Loftis will be bringing his Palmetto Payback Hometown Tour to Winnsboro’s Cornwallis Tea Company Tea Room on Wednesday August 8 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. The public is encouraged to attend to see if their name is on the list of nearly $300 million of unclaimed cash in South Carolina.

“When we started this tour earlier in the summer, the response was overwhelming,” Treasurer Loftis said. “There is nothing more enjoyable than getting out and meeting constituents and finding they have money due to them. We are taking an old program and using new approaches to engage the public and return money to the rightful owners. Each time we get out of the office and go to the people, we end up having several claims.”

In fiscal year 2010-2011, the program paid out $12.6 million to rightful owners and turned over another $15 million to the general fund. Currently, the state is holding unclaimed accounts totaling nearly $300 million.
