S.C. Office of the State Treasurer Recognized for Communications Excellence

(L-R) The Communications Division is made up of Kelly Holcombe, Karen Owens and Kristin Buchman.

The S.C. Office of the State Treasurer was recently recognized for communications excellence at the International Association of Business Communicators S.C. Chapter 2019 Palmetto Awards ceremony.

“I am proud of our agency’s work to interact with the many customers we serve at the State Treasurer’s Office, whether it’s individual citizens, local governments, state agencies or public institutions,” State Treasurer Curtis Loftis said. “We employ many different communications strategies to promote the programs we offer, and I appreciate the creativity and persistence of our Communications team as they work to get these important messages and materials out to our customers. Congratulations on a job well done.”

The State Treasurer’s Office redesigned website (treasurer.sc.gov) was awarded a Palmetto Award of Excellence in the Digital Communications category. With the ongoing emergence of new technologies and digital best practices, the Communications team developed and implemented a redesign that not only addressed the dated appearance of the site but also added new, improved features to enhance user experience and access to the information and services they seek.

The Communications Division also received a Palmetto Award of Merit in Government Communications for its “Find Your Money Monday” social media campaign to increase awareness of the South Carolina Unclaimed Property Program. Building on Treasurer Loftis’ passion for returning unclaimed funds, the weekly campaign targets different communities across the state in an effort to identify local residents, businesses or organizations that have unclaimed money due to them. The campaign not only encourages these property owners to claim their rightful funds but also encourages other members of the local community to spread the word about the program and conduct their own search for unclaimed property, generating higher website traffic, higher claims volume and greater awareness of the program itself.
