Sen. Lee Bright hosts Palmetto Payback Hometown on Monday June 11

(Columbia, SC) – Senator Lee Bright (R-Spartanburg) will be hosting State Treasurer Curtis Loftis and his Palmetto Payback Hometown Tour today, Monday June 11 at the Atlanta Bread Company in Greenville from 4 to 5:30pm. The Treasurer’s Office will immediately determine if you’re owed cash.

“We are taking an old program and using new approaches to engage the public and return money to the rightful owners,” Treasurer Loftis said. “I’m looking forward to meeting with my good friend, Sen. Lee Bright, in Greenville to bring this program directly to the people – and hopefully get a few folks the unclaimed money they deserve.”

In the past 10 years, $80 million has been returned to South Carolina citizens. Over that same time period, nearly $175 million has been remitted to the general fund of the state that could be used to pay for education, healthcare and law enforcement. In fiscal year 2010-2011, the program paid out $12.6 million to rightful owners and turned over another $15 million to the general fund. Currently, the state is holding unclaimed accounts totaling nearly $300 million.
