COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina Treasurer Curtis Loftis has recognized Kershaw County School District’s Amanda Williams of North Central Elementary School as the South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program’s Educator of the Month for September.

“I believe that financial literacy is essential for students to become responsible citizens,” Treasurer Loftis said. “That’s why I am so passionate about our South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program. By teaching students about the importance of budgeting, saving and investing, educators like Amanda Williams are helping our young students achieve their goals and make informed financial decisions throughout their lives.”

Ms. Williams earned both her Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education and Master of Education in Language and Literacy from the University of South Carolina. She is a Certified Literacy Teacher (2010) as well as a National Board-Certified Teacher (2012) and holds a Gifted and Talented Endorsement (2013). An elementary school teacher since 2008, Williams currently teaches second grade at North Central Elementary. During her career, she has received many accolades, including two Teacher of the Year honors. Her recognition as an Educator of the Month is a testament to her continued hard work and commitment to excellence.

“Teaching financial literacy is important to me because I see the need for students to know and understand at a young age how to be financially responsible,” said Williams. “I’m excited to be part of this program and to share my knowledge with other educators. By working together, we can ensure that all students can learn these important financial skills.”

The South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program provides incentives to K-12 teachers who are experts in the area of financial literacy and have a desire to teach professional development workshops to other educators in their schools and districts. Through the program, participating teachers have access to specialized training and financial literacy curriculum resources that better enable them to promote financial literacy education in K-12 schools.

Sponsored by Future Scholar, South Carolina’s 529 College Savings Plan, and in partnership with SC Economics, this statewide financial literacy initiative aims to increase teacher support and involvement in incorporating personal finance education into the curriculum.
