#TBT: Unclaimed Property Program at the 2014 State Fair

Columbia, SC - The Unclaimed Property Program had a successful time at the 2014 South Carolina State Fair.

People lined up to search their name at the booth back in 2014. Unclaimed Property Program staff and Treasurer Curtis Loftis were on hand to help people see if they had money to claim.

Millions of dollars are transferred to the Program annually by companies that cannot locate the owners. Examples of the type of property covered by the Program include bank accounts, stock certificates, checks, insurance policies and utility deposits. The Unclaimed Property Program does not include tangible property like land or vehicles.

The property transferred to the Program for safekeeping is held indefinitely for the benefit of the rightful owners. If we are holding property for you, you always have the right to claim your property any time at no cost.

"Deposits from utilities when you were in college, old paycheck when you forgot about it and went on to do something else," said Treasurer Curtis Loftis. "It could be insurance settlements. It's amazing of the kind of money it could be."
