Treasurer Curtis Loftis teams up with Representative Anderson to bring Unclaimed Property Program to Georgetown

Columbia, South Carolina - State Treasurer Curtis Loftis announced that staff from the State Treasurer’s Unclaimed Property Program will be on site at the Georgetown High School on Thursday, May 4, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. to provide free unclaimed property searches.

South Carolina residents are encouraged to stop by the Georgetown High School to see if property is being held in safekeeping for them by the State Treasurer’s Office.

“I want every South Carolinian to be aware of our Unclaimed Property Program and our commitment to connecting citizens to the property they rightfully own,” said Treasurer Loftis.  “The service is free, and it takes just minutes to find out if you or your business has money waiting to be claimed.  I appreciate Representative Carl Anderson’s invitation to host this event for his community,” Treasurer Loftis added.

The State Treasurer’s Office serves as custodian of more than $550 million in unclaimed property and holds it in safekeeping for the citizens of South Carolina.  Last fiscal year, unclaimed property staff returned over 29,000 accounts worth more than $23 million for South Carolina individuals and businesses.  Examples of unclaimed property include dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks (including paychecks), unclaimed insurance proceeds, forgotten utility deposits, uncashed dividend checks, abandoned and matured U.S. Savings Bonds, and forgotten shares of stock.

“I would like to thank Treasurer Loftis and his staff,” said Representative Anderson, “for working with us to provide the citizens of my district with an opportunity to learn about and make claims through the Unclaimed Property Program.”   If you are unable to attend the event on May 4, free online searches are available at any time by visiting /.
