Treasurer Curtis Loftis to do statewide financial literacy school tour
May 9, 2011
(Columbia, SC) – State Treasurer Curtis Loftis will visit schools statewide starting on May 11 to promote financial literacy and share his experiences as the state’s chief banker in addition to running a successful business.
The Treasurer’s Office is partnering with Visa to distribute free financial literacy computer software to all public, private and charter elementary schools registered with the Department of Education. The Treasurer will award six schools with complimentary computer tablets loaded with the financial literacy software.
“It is my pleasure to meet with our future leaders to speak about the importance of knowing how to save and manage money,” Treasurer Loftis said. “Counting pennies can lead to counting hundreds or even millions of dollars and I hope to inspire some elementary students who could become CEO’s or perhaps a State Treasurer. Thanks to Visa for partnering with our office to provide this valuable service to our elementary schools at no charge to the taxpayer.”
