Treasurer Loftis’ call for more public access to B&CB meetings granted

(Columbia, SC) – Treasurer Curtis Loftis’ call for moving Budget and Control Board meetings to a large venue has just been granted by the full board.

The next scheduled meeting of the Board will now be in Room 101 of the Blatt Building at the SC Statehouse Complex on February 8 at 9:30 a.m. The new venue can seat up to 50 people and Board Members will be heard through the room’s audio system. Treasurer Loftis serves as the Vice Chairman of the Board which has authority over many of the mportant and core functions of state government
.
Prior to the move, Board Meetings were held in a Governor’s Conference Room, with no public seating. As a leader in promoting transparency and open government, Treasurer Loftis applauded the move.

“This is a great day for open and transparent government,” Treasurer Loftis said. “The Budget and Control Board is one of the most powerful agencies in the state and it is only right that taxpayers can see the process of how their money is being spent. I thank the Board Members for considering and granting my request made back in November to hold meetings in a venue large enough to accommodate citizens, not just political insiders.”

More accessible public Budget and Control Board meetings is another accomplishment for transparency under Treasurer Loftis’ administration.

Shortly after his inauguration in January, Treasurer Loftis took the unprecedented step in posting his entire work schedule online. Treasurer Loftis is the only statewide elected officeholder in America to give constituents such an up close look at his daily activities. The Treasurer’s calendar is the exact document used in his office to plan his day. CLICK HERE to view the calendar page.

When a software upgrade takes place sometime in March, the calendar will be updated in real-time.

“Traveling across the state, people have told me they want greater and easier access to government ,” Treasurer Loftis said. “Whether it’s open meetings to the public or letting taxpayers know what their officials are doing, this is transparency in action.”

Treasurer Loftis and his team are working hard creating the most transparent, accountable and efficient Treasurer’s office in the nation.
