Treasurer Loftis proclaims November 19 as National Adoption Day

(Columbia, SC) - South Carolina State Treasurer Curtis Loftis would like you to join him in commemorating the 12th anniversary of National Adoption Day on Saturday, November 19.

Prior to being elected State Treasurer, Loftis founded the Saluda Charitable Foundation in 2000. As the sole benefactor, Treasurer Loftis has traveled to numerous countries and has worked closely with families, including providing support to orphanages and food pantries.

“In my charity work across continents, I have seen firsthand the struggles children in foster care and orphanages deal with,” Treasurer Loftis said. “In South Carolina, the health and progress of our state depends on our children. Whether it is in Ukraine or Union County, South Carolina, we cannot forget those who are less fortunate to not have a permanent home.”

Nearly 5,000 children in South Carolina are in foster care, according to the S. C. Department of Social Services. Close to 2,000 South Carolina children are currently available for adoption. Typically children wait more than three years in foster care before being adopted; moving from home to home, changing schools while wondering if they will ever have someone to call “mom” or “dad.”

National Adoption Day is a collective national effort to raise awareness of the 107,000 children in foster care who are waiting to find safe and loving families through adoption. Since the first National Adoption Day, more than 30,000 children have joined forever families on this special day.

In South Carolina, those considering adoption should contact the SC Department of Social Services. For more information on Treasurer Loftis’ charity work, visit the Saluda Charitable Foundation website.
