State Treasurer Curtis Loftis to Speak at SC Blockchain Conference

As the South Carolina Emerging Tech Association prepares for its annual conference in October, President and Co-Founder Dennis Fassuliotis announced that State Treasurer Curtis Loftis would be speaking at the trade association’s fall conference Oct. 5-7, 2022, in Charleston.

The S.C. General Assembly recently asked the State Treasurer’s Office to develop a digital currency literacy program designed to help state agencies and the public understand digital assets and their role in the state’s economy. In a letter of support to Fassuliotis, Treasurer Loftis expressed gratitude for the association’s ongoing efforts to “spark the curiosity and recognition of digital assets and emerging technologies in South Carolina.”

Positive Impact

“The State Treasurer’s Office expects to provide valuable assistance and guidance to both government agencies and the public by helping them navigate the digital economy,” Treasurer Loftis said. “We must understand the disruptive changes these technologies offer as well as the promise of expanding financial opportunities for our state and her citizens.”

The Treasurer’s Office is currently developing recommendations on an infrastructure to support this endeavor, and Treasurer Loftis will share his perspective on the state’s role in this emerging technology at the SC Blockchain Week conference.

“When we set a goal of expanding financial inclusion to the underbanked & unbanked citizens of our state, we didn’t have a clear path on how that might happen,” Fassuliotis explained, “but we have seen with our own eyes that a basic education on how to use Bitcoin is expanding financial inclusion in third world economies so why can’t that work here? We have a roadmap now and with the State Treasurer’s support we can impact the health and well-being of the citizens of South Carolina while also attracting the attention of the next generation technology companies from around the world.”
