Treasurer Loftis discusses DOT shortfall & workers not getting paid
August 9, 2011
South Carolina State Treasurer Curtis Loftis demanded accountability and transparency at the August 9, 2011 Budget and Control Board meeting. The DOT is facing a $50 million dollar shortfall and many contractors and road workers are complaining about not getting paid on time. Some contractors are worried they may go out of business soon if they don't get paid. Treasurer Loftis questioned how the shortfall happened and proposed a solution to ensure workers get paid. Governor Nikki Haley turned back the attempt to pay the workers on time, citing meeting procedures.
