South Carolina Treasurer Curtis Loftis has recognized Irmo High School’s Bonnie Robinson as the South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program’s Educator of the Month for April.

“Making sure the students of South Carolina have a strong foundation in financial literacy is one of the pillars of the Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program,” said State Treasurer Curtis Loftis. “It’s great how Bonnie Robinson and teachers across the state are able to create lessons and find activities about financial literacy that are tailored to the individual needs of their students.”

A graduate of Francis Marion University, Robinson began her teaching career in Loganville, Georgia as a special education educator. She has taught special education at the elementary, middle and high school levels in Georgia and South Carolina throughout her 23-year career in education, with the last 12 years at Irmo High School. Robinson enjoys going to church, volunteering in the community, traveling, and spending time with her family.

“Being in the Financial Literacy Master Teacher program has been such a blessing,” said Robinson. “I may be in my 23rd year of teaching, but I have many more years and students in front of me. I look forward to helping them grow into individuals who have strong financial literacy skills and better lives because of it.”

The South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program provides incentives to K-12 teachers who are experts in the area of financial literacy and have a desire to teach professional development workshops to other educators in their schools and districts. Through the program, participating teachers have access to specialized training and financial literacy curriculum resources that better enable them to promote financial literacy education in K-12 schools.

Sponsored by Future Scholar, South Carolina’s 529 College Savings Plan, and in partnership with SC Economics, this statewide financial literacy initiative aims to increase teacher support and involvement in incorporating personal finance education into the curriculum.
