State Treasurer Curtis Loftis Recognizes Suzanne Quinn of Boiling Springs Elementary as Educator of the Month

South Carolina Treasurer Curtis Loftis recently recognized Dr. Suzanne Quinn of Boiling Springs Elementary as December’s Future Scholar Financial Literacy Program Educator of the Month.

Dr. Quinn, a school counselor and National Board Certified Teacher, was instrumental in bringing the Future Scholar Financial Literacy Program  to her school district, Spartanburg County School District Two. About two dozen school counselors in the district are now working with elementary teachers and students to increase the understanding of financial terms and proper money management.

The web-based, interactive financial literacy program uses the Vault platform, powered by EverFi, to engage students and make learning skills interesting and fun.

“As a school counselor, I really appreciate how user-friendly the Vault program is. It is also age-appropriate for our students and ties in nicely with our required academic standards,” Quinn said.

The Future Scholar Financial Literacy Program focuses on skill building, budgeting and decision-making and is offered to elementary and middle schools across the state at no cost to taxpayers.

“Financial literacy is an essential tool for economic success, and we are grateful for instructors and school counselors like Dr. Quinn who teach these skills,” Treasurer Loftis said. “Because our financial system has grown increasingly complex, it is more important than ever for our students to begin now to learn how to make sound financial decisions.” 

Approximately 27,000 South Carolina students and 238 schools have participated in the Future Scholar Financial Literacy Program since it was launched in 2015.
